Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

Peer Forum 1 provides students with regular opportunities to present work-in-progress to their peers, through performance or recording, score or other means. Learning from each other, students develop their skills in creative practice, presentation/performance, listening, analysis, constructive critique and reflexivity, in a supportive environment. Peer Forum 1 (Module ID. 2939) is M graded with Peer Forum 2 (Module ID. 2947)

Syllabus:

Peer Forum 1 provides students with regular opportunities to present their creative output to their fellow students, receiving and offering valuable feedback on their work. Students hone their preparation and presentation skills,  in performance or recording, score or other means. Learning from each other, students develop their skills in creative practice, presentation/performance, listening, analysis, constructive critique and reflexivity, in a supportive environment. 

Learning Outcomes:

Cognitive (Knowledge, Understanding, Application, Analysis, Evaluation, Synthesis)

Explore and reflect upon a variety of approaches to composition and creative music practice. Develop a clear sense of individual creative process and artistic identity. Engage with and locate themselves within a range of composition styles and creative music practices presented by their peers. Students develop their skills in musical analysis, evaluation, criticism and reflexivity.  Develop a professional body of work suitable for publication, performance and recording.

Affective (Attitudes and Values)

Evaluate and critique their own and the music compositions and creative music practices of others. Demonstrate awareness of their own distinctive creativity and deepen their appreciation of and respect for the distinctive creative voice of others. Develop their skills in communication and articulation of constructive feedback.

Psychomotor (Physical Skills)

Skilfully perform motor skills specific to instrumental and vocal music performance and relevant movement-based artistic practices.

How the Module will be Taught and what will be the Learning Experiences of the Students:

Peer Forum 1 is scheduled and supported by faculty, convened by students, with contributions from guest artists and scholars, and mentoring from Academy staff. Students present and discuss their work-in-progress with their peers, through performance or recording, music score or other means. Students develop their analytical, critical and reflexive skills. This module is delivered in line with best international pedagogical practice and is aligned with the UL graduate attributes.
